❤️ Your Identity

Your Identity Isn’t Up for a Vote

Are you letting someone else’s opinion define who you are?

❤️ Your Identity
If someone rejects you, criticizes you, or chooses someone else, it can feel like you’ve lost a part of yourself. But what if the real problem isn’t rejection—it’s where you’ve learned to find your identity?

Your Identity isn’t outside of you

When we’re young, we naturally build our identity from what we hear and experience.

Maybe you were:

  • “The smart one.”
  • “The funny one.”
  • “The athlete.”
  • “The pretty one.”
  • “The quiet one.”

Those labels aren’t necessarily bad.

The problem begins when your brain starts believing:

“This is what makes me worthy.”

If your identity depends on something outside of you, then losing that thing feels like losing yourself.

The Hidden Question

When someone rejects you, ignores you, or chooses someone else…

Your brain may not actually be asking:

“Why don’t they want me?”

Instead, it may be asking:

“If they don’t choose me… who am I?”

That question creates intense emotions because it isn’t just about the relationship.

It feels like your identity is under attack.

Signs This Might Be Happening

You may notice:

🧠 You replay conversations over and over.

💔 Rejection feels devastating rather than simply painful.

😔 You constantly compare yourself to the other person.

🤔 You feel like you’ve lost part of yourself.

😟 You desperately want them to change their mind.

These aren’t signs that you’re weak.

They’re signs that your brain may have connected your worth to someone else’s opinion.

A Better Question

Instead of asking:

Why wasn’t I enough?

Ask:

When did I start believing someone else gets to decide my worth?

That single question can completely change the direction of your thinking.

Brain Rewire Exercise

Find somewhere quiet.

Place your arms across your chest as if you’re giving yourself a gentle hug.

Take a slow breath.

Now ask yourself:

“When did I let someone else’s opinion become more important than my own?”

Don’t force an answer.

Simply notice:

  • What memories come up?
  • What emotions appear?
  • Where do you feel them in your body?

You don’t need to solve anything.

Just observe.

Sometimes awareness is the beginning of change.

Your New Belief

Read this slowly.

I cannot control the version of me that exists in someone else’s mind.

I can control the person I choose to be.

Someone else’s rejection is not proof that I’m unworthy.

Their opinion is information—not my identity.

My worth has never depended on being chosen.

Remember

People can reject a relationship without rejecting your value.

Those are not the same thing.

The moment you stop handing other people the responsibility of deciding who you are…

…you begin taking your identity back.

💔Attachment Styles

The way you connect with other people didn’t begin in your first relationship.
It began long before that.
